Welcome to Ellen VanLaar Arts and Adventure, interfacing nature and creativity!

Our information, education and art sales center is set up to nurture your recreation, and creative needs. Located between Pancake Bay and Lake Superior Provincial Park on the shores of Lake Superior, we can guide and affirm your discovery of self and the natural world. Schedule a tour designed to your interests: geology, history, flora/fauna, hikes and water routes. Rent a cabin or just come for the day. Share food, relax, swim, walk, kayak, or focus on creative endeavors. Music and Art lesson/critiques are also available.

History: Our site housed a Hudson Bay trading post and the old Mamainse Harbor, with ties to First Nation people, voyageurs, mining, fishing, logging, and transportation. We are working with universities, arts, and tourism groups to enhance and promote the area.

Ellen's large original artwork is displayed at the Algoma University Music Department/Conservatory building at the River's edge, old St. Mary's Paper Mill site at 75 Huron Street. Another place to view Van Laar artwork is at the Stokely Creek trail area north of SSM. Ellen's work is for sale. You are welcome to visit her displays or home studio to view her paintings and other products.
